THE GOAL:

ONE POEM PER WEEK

.

Monday, August 25, 2003

It's August 25, two years since the incomparable singer Aaliyah left us. In her memory, I have of course written a poem.

To Baby Girl

Your hair, your skin
Your voice, your style
We're missing you, and it feels strange.
You were truly an angel on earth and, well,
Nothing's changed, baby.
Nothing's changed.

You improved it all.
Everything you touched,
and everyone you knew.
Every pair of ears that heard the music,
coming out of you.

Missy and Tim are crying tonight,
It's so hard cause you're not around.
But when your mother gave you to the world
It was like a priceless jewel was found.

You were truly One in a Million.
Your beauty was above and beyond.
Each person who loves the gifts that you gave
Will always share a special bond.

You made us happy when you were mortal,
we couldn't get enough of you.
Now that you're gone, we'll never forget
Your memory in our hearts we keep true.
Our angel is missing from the earth and the sea
Your absence feels so strange.
But you were always an angel and you always will be.
Nothing's changed, baby.
Nothing's changed.
